Judging Provo's Most Eligible

On Thursday in class we talked about social comparisons through media. The media feeds us a lot of lies. The images are so edited that the celebrities don't look like themselves at all. As we watch these shows, we compare ourselves to them. We judge how they look physically, and then think of how we look. It is detrimental to the celebrities and to the people watching the media. Even media that is meant to promote "fitspiration" does not help. It just makes people sad that they won't reach that body image.

That same day we had that class I was invited over to watch Provo's most eligible with some people in my ward. I had never seen the show before, so I thought I would give it a chance. Besides finding the show absolutely boring, I was very interested in how everyone acted while watching the show. They were doing exactly what we had talked about in class. Essentially comparing and judging everyone on the show. That seemed to be the reason for watching it. They were talking about which boys were attractive, which ones had nice hair or a face, or which ones were jerks or not. I was very interested in how much enjoyment everyone got from watching something for the purpose of comparing and judging. Knowing the detrimental effects of that behavior from what I had learned in class, I left the show early and do not intend on watching it again.
