Letter to Mitt Romney

Senator Romney, I’d like to write to you to express my appreciation for your effort to protect families. While growing up, something that really strengthened my family was the ability to watch movies edited. We would buy them from Cleanflicks or Clearplay, and we could see movies that otherwise we would not be able to. When I got to college, I was excited to hear about VidAngel. it is an easy way to access a large number of movies, but clean. This is extremely important for my family and me. I am very sensitive to vulgarity, violence, and sexual content, so I will not watch movies that contain those, nor will I allow my family to. I took a media class this semester, and I read a lot of research that shows the negative correlations that are found with watching violence, or listening to vulgarity. I would like to protect my family from that. I do not believe that Hollywood should be able to censor what I watch inside of my own home. I would like to have the liberty to decide what kind of content my family watches. As of now, it means far less content than they would like because of all the filth out there.

I heard that Senator Mike Lee is going to sponsor a “Family Movie Act Clarification” bill soon. I am not sure if it is already out there or if it is coming, but I would like to ask you to support that bill. It would mean a lot to my family and me, and it would do a lot of good for a lot of other families like me who are trying to protect themselves from participating in viewing antisocial behaviors.

Thank you, Samuel Hepworth
