Social Media

I've learned about Social Media in my Media class this week. It is very interesting to find the research that has been done on it. A lot of people are starting to think that all Social Media is bad. However, according to a new study done through BYU, it turns out that the amount of time on social media is not correlated with anxiety or depression. Rather, what matters is what you are doing on social media. If you actively comment and post then it actually helps you to be happier. I think this is awesome because it lines up so closely with what the prophets have said about it like when David A. Bednar invited us to "sweep the earth as with a flood". I have been guilty far too long of letting social media control me instead of me controlling the social media, so I am going to try and be better about that by only getting on social media intentionally and not just out of habit. I need to be intentionally studying the scriptures a lot more, so I can take my social media time and use it for that. I could also do as Professor Coyne suggests and be an active consumer of media. I think combining both will help me a be a much happier person.
